Association of Municipalities of Ontario A province-wide campaign aimed at strengthening local democracy by encouraging more Ontarians to run for municipal office and vote, while breaking down barriers to participation and leadership.
To help address the challenges found in local democracy AMO launched the “When You Believe, They Believe” province-wide campaign developed through AMO’s Healthy Democracy Project. The campaign shined a light on the leadership everyday Ontarians already demonstrate, how that leadership can grow into municipal leadership, and the vital role voting plays in shaping local communities.
The campaign also highlighted the rewards of municipal political life and mitigated the risks of running for office through information, resources, and supports. The key narrative in this element of the campaign rebalanced the current risk-reward dynamic with a focus on the value, importance and inspiration of community achievement.
